Mernet provides a range of services for the members of the Mediterranean community in Brighton and Hove. Mernet is the first and only organisation that provides advice and follow-up support exclusively to the members of the Mediterranean community in Brighton & Hove. Our services are:

INFORMATION AND DATA

Management of the comprehensive resource centre which consists of a library, archive and documentation centre; making it available for the use of specialists, academics, researchers and activists. Mernet has got the highest collection of books, periodicals and reports on Mediterranean countries in Sussex region. Mernet, among over 30 other tenant organisations in the Community Base building, has got the highest collection of books, periodicals and reports on environmental issues.
   

ADVICE

Providing advice to individuals and community groups (e.g. on where to apply or who to contact on individual matters related to immigration and nationality, debt, housing, employment;
as well as advice on training needs of the individuals
 
who work or wish to work in the small and medium enterprises owned or operated by the Mediterranean community and the training opportunities available for them).

REFERRAL

 Referral of individual cases to the relevant bodies such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, Brighton and Hove Council departments, Immigration Legal Service, local and regional healthcare (NHS) trusts, Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, the Home Office, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, local and regional notary public offices, and elsewhere appropriate.

LEARNING GUIDANCE

Offering guidance on educational, academic and personal development opportunities. Mernet's library of education and training prospectuses library is regularly available for individuals who wished to inspect the available educational and training opportunities. Basic initial advice from Mernet advisors is available on an ad-hoc basis.

LINGUISTIC SUPPORT

Translation and interpreting support in Mediterranean languages and cultural briefing to individuals in the Mediterranean community as well as the community organisations and professional bodies in Brighton and Hove
